I just started my senior year of high school yesterday. Every year, I always feel sad when summer is over. But this year I have a different perspective. First, we all, in California, started shelter-in-place because of Covid-19 since March. We had to depart from our school friends and teachers 3 months before summer started. I was not fond of distant learning from home – very difficult to focus and be serious about homework. Then, my family had to forego our traveling plan. My mom planned to take the family to Hong Kong to see our relatives in June and, from there, we planned on travelling to Korea. Sadly, the pandemic wiped it all away. I could only reminiscing our summer vacation last year to Virginia, N. Carolina and to the continent of Australia.
I am happy to see my school friends and teachers again yesterday. Interactions with them are always more joyful than my classroom academics, even though we all had to wear masks. My county still imposes mandatory distant learning from home because of the increasing number of covid-19 cases. Since I go to a private school, the parents and school administrators voted for us to physically attend school with all the required sanitary measures and social distancing. With that, I will enjoy every minute of my senior year and, hopefully, this coming year will bring our country back to close to normal with the victory over the malicious covid-19.
I am hoping I will be able to go to my favorite Hong Kong next summer!
